Before joining the DESIGN MIAMI, Marianne Goebl held a position as Head of International Public Relations and Partner a role in which she was responsible for Vitra’s international public relations strategy, brand collaborations and partnerships.
There are objects in my collection that I grew up with, some that go all the way back to my childhood, objects from my parents' home. My parents appreciated design. They furnished the house with great furniture by such designers as T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings and Tommy Parzinger. At the breakfast table we ate on Russell Wright’s dinnerware and I remember an entire set of his most well-known set, American Modern in Chartreuse.
There is nothing more satisfying than studying and discovering. So the single greatest mistake I could make decoratively or in any other domain of my life would be to say that I know all I need to know and that nothing better than what I have seen already is ever going to come up.
Selling is more important here in New York than it is in Europe, (but less than in Hong Kong). I had clients in Europe whose principal criteria when they commissioned a piece of work was quality and only secondarily, marketability. In the US, my clients first check to see if it works, and only then, see if it’s good or not.
...designers ought to take that responsibility to shape our world and by that, I mean to enable the population to achieve a better life...There is a lot going on in Paris, but I consider myself both different from other designers as well as isolated in the design arena.
